शिरवा – SHIRAVAA

The gazal is kind of a prayer where the poetess expresses the desire to experience the divine presence of God in her heart as well as in the various phenomena observed in nature. In the first line of the gazal, the poetess says that she sees God in the temple. She asks a question, when will god reside in her heart as well. The belief that God resides in every being forms the basis of this gazal.

Darshan of God’s idol in the temple is described beautifully. The poetess sees God smiling through her inner self which is formless and pure. The thought and prayer for God to spread the divine fragrance in her heart is expressed by the poetess. The most pure thoughts arising from a pure heart are liked to drops of pure water sliding gently from flowers onto leaves.
